Wedding venue search: Bridelings, I have a confession

Wedding stress?  HA! Don’t be ridiculous. We are down-to-earth brides; we laugh in the face of drama and fuss! Well, 99% of the time I do. However, the venue search for our wedding venue in London did cause mild forms of stress and tension. MILD…ish. I’M SORRY!

This is the only side of the wedding planning that has stressed me out actually. We had no clue where to start, and the pace of it all was so so fast. It was a bit of a rude awakening from the month of celebrations and bubbles. AGH. Even after narrowing it down to London (we thought this was a wild breakthrough), the list of options was endless. Often, between enquiring and then arranging a visit at a venue, our preferred date had been snapped up, and it made us feel like we needed to GO GO GO! If I can pass on one tip for the wedding venue search, it’s just to try not to be pressured into making a quick decision through any sales people. Let’s say no to this stock exchange-style wedding venue bidding!

We had to say cheerio to a few venues, and we were a bit gutted for a few hours, then we found another hot-looking venue and got over it. Just like wedding dresses, I strongly believe there is not only one venue out there for you. Capiche?

Wedding venues: BUY BUY BUY! Nope nope nope…

We got engaged about 15 months before our wedding date. I thought that was SUITCASES full of time! And it is. However, lots of people made us feel that we were really late, were totally stupid to think we could get a Saturday in the summer, and the prices just seemed BONKERS.

We also found the venue visits a little stressful as lots of them were only open for viewings on weekdays from 9-5. If you work on average 8.30 – 6 it’s sliiightly impossible, no?

Top tip: I’d really recommend you don’t only look for ‘wedding venues’ in your searches. There are tons of restaurants, bars and cool little hire spaces in London that won’t label themselves as ‘wedding venues’ but which might be perfect for a wedding. Mr DTE and I looked at tons of restaurants and they were gggggreat. We actually ended up picking one. Also, imagine how yummy the food, and service, will be. Score.

Hope you had a lovely Easter, bridelings. The next bank holiday is just a few weeks away. WE CAN DO THIS! x

I'm a 32 year-old newlywed bride, living in London. I recently got married (July 2016) and am here to spread wedding joy and worldly wedding advice to fellow bridelings who don't want their weddings to take over their lives. Let's laugh (nervously) in the face of bonkers wedding planning!
