E-shoots and leaves

Are engagement shoots an essential part of wedding planning? Probably…..not. So why have them? Well, if you are ever so slightly terrified at the prospect of everyone staring at you and taking your photo for about 12 hours on your wedding day, like Mr DTE and I, then they are pretty bloody great. SCORE.

I know what you’re thinking – engagement shoots (or e-shoots for those in the know) don’t seem to demonstrate very down-to-earth behaviour, right? I too would have thought they were so vommy and indulgent a couple of years ago.

Then I saw the pics from my friend’s shoot and heard all about how cool it was. She told me how it helped them to relax and get to know their photographer before the big day, so it made me think it might not be so cringe after all.

Other than a few drunken selfies, as a couple I’d say Mr DTE and I are more likely to take a mock photo with flared nostrils and scary eyeballs than pouting sweetly into the camera. HOT. We were pretty sure this wouldn’t quite be the look we wanted on our wedding day, so we thought we’d take the plunge with an e-shoot, in the hope it would help us feel more chilled and natural in our shots of the big day.

I know I bang on about saving money all the time and getting rid of ridiculous wedding expenses, but our e-shoot wasn’t hugely expensive. It was also fun to have some photos in our normal chilled clothes, in one of our favourite places, on a sunny spring’s day in London’s Hampstead Heath. I was pretty nervous beforehand and was so worried we’d be made to stare into each other’s eyes, kiss and caress each other in public. Barf. Then I remembered that wasn’t Hector’s style at all, which is why we picked him. DUH.  We also had a G&T to warm up, which always helps solve any problem, fact.

Anyway, each to their own. It might still fill you with dread which is fair enough. But we were just really pleasantly surprised so thought I’d share the tips. Hope you like this little selection of pics, eep! Hector, you da man. Thanks We Heart Pictures!

Happy Sunday bridelings. Stay in bed until at least Monday if you can x

I'm a 32 year-old newlywed bride, living in London. I recently got married (July 2016) and am here to spread wedding joy and worldly wedding advice to fellow bridelings who don't want their weddings to take over their lives. Let's laugh (nervously) in the face of bonkers wedding planning!
