Bridelings: grab that mic

Happy happy day of staying in bed, bridelings! And Happy Mother’s Day to those of you who are mums, to those of you who still have mums, and to those of you with memories of wonderful mums no longer with us. If you’re lucky enough to have a mum here to celebrate with, then tell her she’s amazing – you came out of her, that’s quite an achievement for you both.

I think it’s pretty special that Mother’s Day falls in the same week as International Women’s Day (IWD) this year. Whether or not you buy into Mother’s Day, I hope that you are all fans of IWD (Tuesday 8 March). It’s a day of celebrating kick-ass females across the globe. Whether your achievements are epic or humble, we all matter yo!

♥ Here are my most inspirational wonderful females: past and present ♥

Maman DTE: The woman drinks spritz. Need I say more??
Mumma DTE: The original kick-ass female

And for all my fellow down-to-earth brides, give yourselves a big pat on the back and congratulate yourselves for being a female in 2016 who is planning her wedding and has not totally lost her mind and become a bridezilla. You da bomb.

To celebrate IWD I thought I’d broach the subject of brides making speeches at their weddings. Ohmygad! Ok ok stop…if you’re having heart palpitations already then maaaaaybe you shouldn’t do one. I am pretty much freaking out too, but I know I HAVE to do one, otherwise I’ll kick myself forever and ever until I’m a sad and shrivelled little bean.

I’m going to take inspiration from my sister and two of my best mates whose speeches were bloody brilliant. I think my best mate pretty much nailed hers when she opened with:

I’m giving a speech today because I’m the independent woman that Destiny’s Child always told me I was.

Is there a better opener to a bride’s speech? (The answer is no)…

I love all the men in my life, but I guess I would just find it strange if I let all of them speak on my behalf on a pretty big day.  So I’m going to pick up my sorry, nervous ass and jump up to that microphone to personally thank our guests. With gusto.

Eep…I better not make a tit of myself now. GULP. Wish me luck, bridelings. And feel empowered – you amazing x

I'm a 32 year-old newlywed bride, living in London. I recently got married (July 2016) and am here to spread wedding joy and worldly wedding advice to fellow bridelings who don't want their weddings to take over their lives. Let's laugh (nervously) in the face of bonkers wedding planning!

  1. YES. I’m with you on this and making a speech myself in less than 5 weeks time…eeeek! Better start writing it, may need to steal that opener! xxx
